The subject of race can be very touchy. But in the world of THPL we cannot avoid the topic. And the reason is that THOL requires that we live life with higher standards – in this case with respect for all individuals, in our community, and outside our community. We all have so much to bring to our collective THPL journey’s that it would be foolish to think that anyone one of us was better than the other. Yes we are different, but different is good and is needs to be celebrated and appreciated. To make one’s life into a life focused on high performance in the areas of Life, Learning and Fitness we need very high standards and in this case the standard is for equality and fairness for all. Let’s see what we can do to make sure we role model this behavior and hope that others copy it – we need it for sure.
My post was inspired by a new TED video given by a finance executive Mellody Hobson. She gives a compelling talk on why we need the discussion of race to be held. She makes the case that speaking openly about race — and particularly about diversity in hiring — makes for better businesses and a better society. And I would offer a bigger and better THPL community.
